Emails from web page is hit and miss!!

Just setup a page that emails details from a form that customers would send in. Whilst testing - it would appear it's not exactly reliable when it comes to sending the info. Sometimes it works and sometimes nothing arrives at all. I even setup a Yahoo account, had the web emails sent their and then the Yahoo account would forward them on to my BT domain account but shock horror... I got the same results even though the emails do hit the Yahoo account.

Anybody else had the same trouble and if so what did you do to get around it?

Hi Platespin,

A rough guess would be that your mail is getting dropped by Spam Filtering Technology,

can contact BT through the Technical Helpdesk/Live chat or E-mail, to confirm you will need to supply the person you contact an example to check the logs,

the TO Address From Address time and Date it was sent and the subject of the form,

they will be able to confirm if that is the case and go from there

Thanks

Cheers Plumly.

Ill give it a whirl and update this topic accordingly.

Just find it odd that I can send five identical messages and two out of the five make it and the other three disappear into the ether. Seems like a cool trick or a rubbish spam filter.

Re: Emails from web page is hit and miss!!

So I had a chat with Pete on LiveChat and the answer was... err.... hummmm... err.... don't know. We both did test emails, some of them took 10 minutes to arrive some still haven't arrived and still no answer/reason for it.

It was left that I was to keep testing and he would call me back in 24hrs. Hopes are not high but then I've become used to that feeling when dealing with BT. I think the search for a new service provider starts today. No doubt this post will be deleted by the moderator!!

Re: Emails from web page is hit and miss!!

I've just spent over a week trying to set up autoresponders on my website but of course tested them on my own btconnect email. Gmail fine, gmx.com fine, btconnect addresses just disappear. It now becomes clear why i regularly do not receive information I have paid for from other people. Pretty sure that BT must be greylisting these email service providers as they are not getting any bounce information.

Do not suggest talking to anyone at BT - it took months not to be able to resolve problems last time. I do have a solution though, my contract is just running out!

How long does BT in business? There are times that these things do happen. I haven't encountered any problem yet with their email services and I just hope I could keep it that way.

Re: Emails from web page is hit and miss!!

I’m staggered at what I’ve just been told by a BT technical guy. If it wasn’t so serious I’d be rolling around the floor laughing.

BT DO NOT SUPPORT FORMS WITHIN THEIR WEB HOSTING PACKAGES – BUSINESS OR OTHERWISE.

How poor is that!!! One of the most basic fundamental features and BT don’t support it. I was only told this after I pushed and pushed for a resolution to my problem.

I wonder how many other people out there are sitting waiting for forms to be emailed to them blissfully unaware that it’ll be more by luck than judgment if they receive anything.

I ran a little test and sent 18 forms from my website at around 10am and only ever received 9 emails back in. Out of the 9, 3 of them hit my inbox in the dead of night!!

I’m sure even BT can work out that that’s a 50% failure rate. Or to put it another way, out of 18 potential customers 50% are being ignored – thanks BT, you’re playing a blinder!!!!!!!!!

So people by all means create forms on your webpage’s but don’t expect them to work and just remember BT couldn’t give a **bleep** whether they do or not!

And they call themselves a service provider, I've got a few names for them!

Re: Emails from web page is hit and miss!!

Platespin,

I'm Shocked to say the least,

yes BT don't support "the Form" but they do support the form Mail going missing if you understand what i mean,

At the end of the day, if the form works, and sends mail and goes "Missing" then it needs to investigated as where the mail is going,

If its identifyed as being your Form coding causing the issue then yes BT don't support coding but untill that point and Established it would be dealt with as if normal SMTP/pop3 Email was going missing,

Hmm might be time to escalate to a Superviisour or Manager Platspin,

Thanks
