Hi,
We've recently converted to Hosted Voip at the office, and it's great. BT communicator does a fantastic job (on Windows 7 by the way). Call quality is fine. It all means I can work from home a lot more.
In pursuit of mobile working, I have tried to get BT office communicator to work when connecting my laptop to the internet via my Vodafone dongle in London. Alas, I only get error messages. Skype doesn't work either via the vodafone stick.
Now, I see that '3' allows users to use skype over it's dongles. Does anyone know whether a 3 dongle would therefore support bt communicator? This would effectively turn my laptop into a mega cheap mobile phone, running off the landline, which would be truly bloody awesome.
Does anyone have any info, or speculative musings?
Many thanks
GUs

Hi Gus
Unfortunately BT will not support this and can not guarantee it will work.
You can see if 3 will give you it on a trial basis so you can test but nothing we can suggest.

Thanks your reply. I guess that's fair enough - bit confused, thinking about it now - does BT block the call, or is it the network?
Has BT thought about bringing out a dongle?

Hi Gus
does BT block the call, or is it the network?
The reason it does not work is more to do with bandwidth and ports, with the dongles the service is restricted and this is where the problem lies, the service gets kicked and BTOC keeps trying to re register and then our system shows too many registrations and your account get temp locked.
As for us providing our own Dongle I have not heard anything for now or the future but I will bring this up.

Well, wouldn't you believe it... Lo and behold BT have gone and brought out some of their own dongles.

Anyone know whether these dongles support BT office communicator?
Can someone at BT possibly test it out?

Hi Gus12
The dongles we use are over the Vodaphone network so still same issues sorry to say.
As i stated above I would ask about us providing our own version compatible with BTOC and the reply I have received was:
There are currently no plans to do this in the near future.
Again Sorry
