Smart hosting - confused!

I've signed up for smart hosting as I want to keep the website up on the current hosting company until the new website is ready to switch hosts.

My problem is how do I configure my new site whilst keeping the old site running? If I go to "manage web hosting" it says I need to transfer my domain name before being able to configure the site. But I don't want to transfer the domain until the new site is up and running.

I've also tried logging in to the smart hosting ftp at 209.235.144.9 but it won't let me log in there - is this because I've not activated something?

Any ideas?

Hi Sam K,

Looks like whoever spoke to to set up smart hosting just set up a standard account with hosting, in which case you will not be able to pre-configure your site.

However to be sure, please send a dns enquiry via www.dnsforms.co.uk and we will look into this for you.
