I am amending my Home page and would like to link to information already contained in the public folder of my existing website.

I have cloned the original site, made my amendements to the Home page, highlighted the wording, selected add hyperlink, typed in www.vpa-ni.co.uk/article.jpg, saved the page, previewed, and tried to access the link - Error page shows up. However, if I cut and paste the link directly into my browser it opens!

Do I need to publish the website to make everything work - I don't want to publish and then find out it doesn't work.

This is happennig because the pages do not exist at the location specified untli you have published. The links should work once you publish the site.

If you want the links to work in preview mode, try specifying them as just /article.jpg rather than the full address.
