It looks like the IP address for ftp.bathroomsbydesign.co.uk is the mail IP... not sure why. You should be able to connect to ftp with the host as just bathroomsbydesign.co.uk, so no ftp. in front of it.

Hi, I am having problems connecting to my client's web space using Filezilla. I have read through several ftp-related posts in this forum, some of which appear to be similar to the problems I am having. But when I carry out the suggested action, I am still having problems. I have not rebooted my router, though (this was a suggestion in one of the posts). Here are my details:

Domain name is bathroomsbydesign.co.uk so the ftp details that I have set up in filezilla are:

ftp host: ftp.bathroomsbydesign.co.uk

user name: bathroomsbydesign.co.uk

pw: the password I set up for FTP when I activated the web hosting package

I have set the transfer setting to Passive in filezilla and also made sure that the front page extensions were OFF (in BT website centre | sitebuilders | Front Page Manager).

This is what is displayed in the Filezilla connection window:

Resolving address of ftp.bathroomsbydesign.co.uk
Status: Connecting to 216.21.224.203:21...
Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Error: Connection timed out
Error: Could not connect to server

Any assistance is gratefully accepted 🐵

@ duskjome - many many thanks for that .... its solved the problem. The BT documentation for ftp connection is therefore incorrect or misleading .... the host name in filezilla should be the primary domain name without the preceeding "ftp."

Rather than the information being incorrect, it is more likely that the A record for FTP is missing from your domain settings, meaning that when you try to connect to ftp.bathroomsbydesign.co.uk you get directed to the ip address for the wildcard record.

You csn fix it if you want by going into your manage domain names section and setting up a record with the following attributes

ftp A 209.235.144.9

Or you can just leave it since it is just cosmetic anyway and will work if you just leave off the ftp. when connecting.
