Un publishing a web site

Hello all.

Is it possible to remove a published site from the internet without deleting it. I might need to do some editing spread over several days and don't want the site accessible while it is a work in progress. I would then want to publish it again.

i dont know specifically.

but i'll tell you what i did.

i build another site with one page as a holding page and published it.

then once my site was ready i published that.

worked for me

You could simply rename the home page.

I did the same as Alastair and put on the new one page site that the site was under construction and would be available soon. I also put my contact details on it so that I would not lose business.
