Domain config ? ftp access to .co.uk

I have a .com and .co.uk domain name. (http://www.classroompixie.com & http://www.classroompixie.co.uk)

All is well with the .com domain! Hurray!

However when I ftp to the .co.uk domain I am connected to the .com one.

I want to do a 301 redirect via htaccess file to my .com site, just need the ftp access to be able to park the file in the right place.

In the maintenance section of the BT configuration for my sites I see that the ftp IP address for both domains is the same, could this be the problem I ask myself?

Two things; firstly the ftp entry is greyed out and cannot be changed, at the access level I have, secondly even if I could change it what should it be changed to.

Thanks!

you need to have a hosting pack for each domain to seperate them... or...

do some form of web splitting that is technically possible but its a tad sloppy

yes it can use the same ip as BT host alot of webspaces on that ip.

you will have to check you activate/registered the domains to the seperate packs.

it may be you didnt activate the .co.uk yet so it defaults to being directed at the .com

Says registration is complete on both in the configuration manager.

Says I have hosting on both too.

Previously the .co.uk was set to forward to .com in the domain manager configuration, which worked fine, took that off a while ago.

I did not like the 302 redirect that was used for this and wanted to upload a 301 redirect in .htaccess file.

The .co.uk url just 401s now.

Bound to be something simple (probably me thats simple). Thanks for the input.

If someone from BT could look at this it would be helpfull, as you will be able to see whats what from the servers perspective.

Many thanks.

I have 2 domain names registered through BT, .com & .co.uk, I would like to redirect the .co.uk to the .com.

The standard method of redirecting provided through the BT domain center manager uses a temporary (302) redirect.

This works fine!

I would really prefer to use a permenant (301) redirect as this is viewed in a better light by search engine spiders.

I would expect to have to edit the .htaccess file on my.co.uk domain to accomplish this, no problem there.

Except that when I ftp onto the .co.uk site it connects me to the .com site, leaving me unable to redirect my .co.uk url in the way I would like.

It would be handy to be able to choose the type of redirect offered by the domain center manager perhaps BT may be able to look into providing this functionality in the future.

In the mean time anyone know how I may be able to get the redirect I would like?

It looks like the .co.uk domain is not hosting on bt's servers, so that might be the issue you are running into when trying to set up the htaccess via ftp, I did a quick host lookup for the IP it is pointing to and it says "Demand Media" from enom controls that IP, which if I'm not mistaken is a redirect IP through enom. That might help you somewhat in finding where the issue is. Where it stands you probably won't be able to connect to our IP for this domain.

Hope this helps.

My suspiscion is that the .co.uk domain was not set up properly by BT in the first instance and they are now struggling to fix it.

When I first bought the 2 domains the .com was fine but the .co.uk had some issues. Which to be fair BT sorted pretty quick. I have lived with the 302 redirect as I had other things that needed sorting out first. Now however I really would like a 301.

Fingers crossed.
