The reason you need to go through this step is that the webspace isn't actually created until you tell the system which domain you want to use.

I can't remember if it still does actually change the zone files, but if it does you can raise a support request to have these put back until you are ready to point them to the BT server.

Second Domain Hosting Package

We currently have a few domains and 1 hosting package with BT and would like to order a second hosting package.

We have some domains within BT Business at the moment all pointing to an external server hosting one site, we are looking to move this site into our BT Business account.

The site is written in PHP with a mySQL database so I presume we would need to order another professional hosting package (the one we have already is for the domain severnballvalves.com - I presume this is the professional package??). I will also need access to a MySQL DB Manager (PHPMyAdmin or similar) is this provided in the pro package?

I would like the new hosting package to be tied to the existing domain severnunival.com that we already have in our account. In addition I will need to point several of my existing BT domains to the new BT hosting account.

Is this something I can simply order through the control panel (i.e. Purchase 1 more license for web hosting professional), or is this something that needs coordinating with BT via email/phone?

Thanks in advance for any advice or gotchas!!

This is correct - you would need a second professional hosting package and this will include MySQL and phpMyAdmin access.

You can order this through the 'upgrade your web hosting' link within your account, or the direct link can be found below:

https://bos.btbroadbandoffice.com/BOST/marketing.online?productgroup=work&productType=vas

Thanks Dave.

I have now signed up for the advanced hosting pack and this shows in my control panel.

What I now want to do is get the site content migrated across and set up correctly on the new hosting package. Once I know this is working OK I will then make the change on the zone records to point to the new BT hosting. Until I have this all set up though I want my domains to still be pointing to the old site.

When I hit the activation link to activate the new hosting it asks me for the domain to associate it to (severnunival.com) but I think if I go through and save this it will change the existing zone records for the domain to point to the new (empty!) hosting package.

It seems that I can't FTP to the new hosting until I tell it which domain I'm using, but I don't want to do that as it'll repoint the zone records!!

Is this assumption correct, and if so, what would be the way to work around this?

Thanks for the info Dave.

FYI the exact functionality I've experienced when activating the new hosting on an existing domain is as follows:

The existing A 'www' record was removed.

A new 'www' was created pointing to IP 209.235.144.9

The newly created 'www' record was locked out in the control panel to prevent deletion.

All other zone records remained intact.

I have logged a call on www.dnsforms.co.uk to remove the A record already.

Cheers,

Alex
