For FTP operations with your web space, we'd recommend an FTP "client" application, such as FileZilla. With all versions of windows prior to Windows 7, you will be able to use "Windows Explorer". With this, you will initially get an error but if you click through it and then use the "login as" option from the File menu, you will be able to login.

Alternatively, use an on-line client such as: http://net2ftp.com
