Hi - I'm looking to get some web hosting from BT. To be honest, I'd probably rather use a smaller company with hosting as its core business, but buying from BT is easier for my company...

Looking at the details online for hosting options, I had a few questions that I couldn't seem to find the answers to - can someone here help? I was initially looking at the £15 pcm histing package

* What is the guaranteed uptime of the hosting?

* How can the account be managed? cPanel, something similar?

* The sales blurb says "2 domains per account from the following TLDs" - we already have the domains, so would just want to use BT provided nameserver. Can this be done, and is the limit of two domains per account still valid?

* The sales blurb says one can ssh into the server- is it linux based?

* Can cron-jobs be set, and if so with what constraints?

* Can subdomains be set and managed?

* What features of the php.ini file can be modified, and what are set in stone?

* How is the 24/7 support provided - phone or chat (or both)

* How often are backups run, what is backed up, and what are the restore procedure?

* Is the hosting provided on a shared server (I assume it is...?)

* Is a static IP provided for any or all of the domains registered on the hosting account

I think that baout covers it - all of the above seem reasonably standard questions, so it is possible I just haven't found the page on the BT site that has the answers - if so just point me in the right direction!

Cheers,

Ben

Have you tried setting up a PHP info file? It's a .php file containing the phpinfo command:

PHP Info

It will display full PHP configuration information. Here's one for an Advanced Hosting package:

http://www.openangus.com/info.php

Hi - php info page is useful, but qon't actually allow anything to be changed...

I got some answers from email support, which rather worried me:

1 No access to any features in php.ini file

2 No subdomains allowed

3 Only one domain per account

4 No static IP

5 No 24/7 support (only first line phone - so not much help)

6 No cron jobs

7 No guaranteed uptime

Of the abovee, points 2 and 1 9and t oa lesser extent 3) are the real killers, and seem a little strange for such an expensive hosting solution...
