Why isn't it possible to transfer your number between exchanges which use the same STD?

Hi Tim,

It should be possible, if not, what we can do is give you a new number, but make your outgoing calls look like you're calling from that number. You can also place a message on that number advising your customers that you've moved to a different number, and to redial with your new one.

As you can tell from below reserving a telephone is not possible but if your given a number that is not memorable then you can ask for a renumber. This is where BT will call you back with a list of numbers but even then there is no guarantee but i sure there will be some you like.

They will only do this once the line has been fully installed & is working. This will cost you £40 to renumber ex vat.

I seem to remember that it is possible from an engineering point of view but against ofcom rules!
