550 Relaying denied

Hi I have outlook 2007 configured to receive and send e-mails. I can send a test message without issue. However if I try to reply or send a new message from outlook, I get the message:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: ......

Sent: 10/08/2011 21:27

The following recipient(s) cannot be reached:

'..... .....' on 10/08/2011 21:27

550 Relaying denied

I have inserted '.....' for the subject and recipient as this obviously changes for each e-mail.

Thanks, jbh, for not having to have your post edited. Relay errors (550) usually happen because:

1/ You are sending using a domain name which is not hosted by us nor listed on your account for mail relay

2/ No outgoing authentication enabled when the mail program in question requires it.

When it comes to outgoing authentication, we find that Outlook 2007/2010 generally doesn't work with it on our servers (Oddly, some installations do require it to be enabled, I assume that it has to do with updates, service packs, etc.) Some versions of OSX Mail will also not require the use of outgoing authentication.

How do I set up SMTP authentication? (Outlook)

Hi JohnE I still can't get this to work

If 1/ were true, would the test e-mail function work? It does. I can also send messages to my own btconnect email address. Just not to others. In Outlook i get the 550 Relaying denied message. If I try to send via my iPhone I get 'The recipient was rejected by the server'

2/ I have tried with SMTP require authentication checked and un-checked. The result are the same.

That does sound like there is a more general problem with the e-mail platform, jbh. I'd strongly recommend that you Contact Us We may need to carry out some troubleshooting so you can once again send e-mail successfully.
