Hi Bob,

You can continue to use BT's mail servers for outgoing mail. If you want to use Microsoft's servers then the information you need is on this page.

[Update below]

I've been told that using BT's servers post-migration is hit-and-miss, it may work but it's possible that it will stop after a while. You would be best to use the MS servers.

I'm not sure exactly how complex your on-premises setup is, but here is an MS Knowledge Base article on setting up IIS to use Exchange Online as a SMTP relay. The concept would be similar for other MTAs as long as they support TLS/SSL connections. I think that the section on supporting multiple email addresses using proxy addresses would be of interest since your on-premises user ID's are different to the email addresses that you want to send from.

Adrian

Hi,

the company i work for are due to migrate our email services to the new BT office 365.

i understand that i can use stunnel or igetmail to sort out the collecting email from POP mailboxes , which is fine..

but how do i configure SMTP to send email? i see that i can set TLS on the connector, but how does it authentcate?,

do i just use the admin account username and password ?, as i cannot see how i can setup and individual one per user.

as everything i have read tells me i need the username and password for the email address im sending from.

the local account usernames and passwords are different to the email settings at BT's end.

or do i just need to enable TLS or use stunnel to encrpyt SMTP with the same settings i have now.

the server is an SBS2003R2, which is working fine at the moment but BT have given me a deadline date for the move..

Thanks

bob
