Its not really an answer to your question (maybe some from BT can help) but in the meantime you can download it and make calls.

BBV connection problem on 10v

I am using a 10v adapter with 2.16 firmware behind a Netgear DG834 router/modem. I have setup the 10v using a static IP address on our network and have opened ports 2427, 2727, 5060, 30000 - 30002, 32000 - 36000, and 49152 - 49193. I configured the 10v according to the BT website instructions for the 10v behind a third-party router.

I can telnet the adapter and the connection information shows as:
TEL number: 05601xxxxxx
Expire Time: 3600
Status: Registration OK
Registrar: bmnhb-02.bt.com:5060
Proxy: bmnhb-02.bt.com:5060
Service Domain: bmnhb-02.bt.com
Outbound Proxy: www.bbvservice-560127.bt.com:5060
Enable: Yes

The BBV light on the 10v is ON and I get the high-pitched dialtone. I can dial out, but calls only last about 8 seconds before cutting off. Incoming calls go straight to 1571, even though I have checked it is not set like this in self-care.

I can make SIP VoIP calls via Voipfone without any problems at all using a Siemens S450IP connected to the same Netgear router (only opening port 5060, all other ports closed). As an experiment, I tried to register my BT number on the S450IP. I managed to configure it and get it to register, but again calls failed in the same way as on the 10v.

Any suggestions as to what may be causing the problem before I abandon BT BBV altogether and commit to VoIP providers whose systems do what they say on the tin?? Life is too short...!

I had a similar problem! Apparently there was something wrong with my 10v profile - sent my details to the VoIP mod Minicheddar and it got sorted out. Works fine now.

Using Office Communicator wouldn't really help as the aim was to make/take calls with the PC off - but thanks for the suggestion, ilovelizardS!

After tweaking the DTMF settings, the S450IP now works OK for outbound/inbound BBV calls - although my first impressions are that sound quality isn't quite as good as the Voipfone channel.

But I still can't get the 10v to connect properly for more than a few seconds, so I guess I need to make some adjustments there too. I've tried all the options available from the web interface, and there is nothing obvious via telnet. Voiplegend, what details did you need to send to the moderator to get it fixed??

OTOH, now the S450IP works it is probably easier just to use it and forget about the 10v altogether. I was hoping to use it as a fax line, but given the problems configuring it for voice, I think I'll bin that idea!

Hi again minicheddar,

That worked first time - and with only port 5060 open. Many thanks!!

It seems a bit strange to have separate registrar and proxy addresses for the 10v. The manual configuration tool at www.bt.com/businessbbv produces a string with the bmnhb-02.bt.com addresses (presumably because it doesn't know there's a 10v behind the router). I understand that you cannot provide detailed support on third-party routers - and I realise why you don't want to encourage too much gefingerpoken by users!

On the other hand, the current Help/Troubleshooting page is wrong as far as the 10v is concerned
I get a page cannot be displayed message when I attempt to manually activate BT Business Broadband Voice
because it specifically says "Do not amend or delete any other part of the URL" - even though the page refers to the 10v as a likely part of the problem.

Might be worth a footnote of some kind??

Message Edited by Anna on 04-02-2009 12:58 PM

Hi Nixdoodsie,

Thanks for your input.

Hi minicheddar

I don't think so. It refers quite clearly to the "Page cannot be displayed" error I got when trying to configure (in plain vanilla IE7) using the popup at https://service.btbroadbandvoice.bt.com/selfcare/business/configEquipPopup.do. The FAQ lists the probable reason (correctly as it turns out) as:

"This may be because the hardware requiring configuration is not using the default IP address. Either you have assigned your own IP address to the equipment or you are using a 10v telephone adaptor which has been assigned an IP address by the attached router via DHCP."

It's the solution that is incomplete (i.e. to amend the first part of the page URL to the correct internal IP address). That doesn't work for the 10v as you also need to change the registration address details.

Incidentally, the FAQ that deals with errors in browsers other than IE is at
I get an internal system error message when I attempt to activate BT Business Broadband Voice

Hope that helps. To be honest, it took a lot of searching originally to find the correct FAQs - and the Helps and Tips from the configuration page don't seem to have an active scroll-bar...

Message Edited by Anna on 04-02-2009 01:02 PM
