How do I move BT Hosted VoIP away from my router?

BT Falcon telephones require an Ethernet connection to your BT Business Broadband in order to make and receive calls.

However this does not mean that you need to be directly corrected, as there are a number of options available to extent the reach of your BT Falcons.

1. Network switch

It is currently possible to order an 8 port Ethernet switch through the Selfcare page. This will allow you to extend your BT Falcon network and offers more ports for IP telephones.

Go to www.bt.com/businessbbv/selfcare

Click on ‘Add IP phone’ and select the BT FS108 data switch

2. Powerline Ethernet

It is currently possible to use Powerline Ethernet adapters, such as those used with BT Vision, to carry your Broadband connectivity over the powerlines of your home.

The technology is ‘plug and play’ – connect one plug to your HG2700v and another, on the other side of your office, to a BT Falcon.

3. Wireless access points (/Gaming Adapters)

Wireless access points connect to your Wi-Fi network and provide an Ethernet port to connect your BT Falcons to. These offer more flexibility, as they can literally be anywhere within the range of your 2700v.

4. Longer Ethernet cables

This is the cheapest answer to extending the range of your BT Falcon network. It also provides a certain degree of freedom, as you can choose the size of cables to fit your needs.
