We have recently purchased a BT Broandband Module Plus along with V-IP feature phones for the BT Versatility phone system. Our current setup is using the BT 2700HGV 2wire router to access the internet. Is it possible to use the BT Broandband Module Plus VOIPs capabilties whilst retaining the 2wire router? I've had a good read through the user manual and wish to disable the ADSL connection of the BT Broandband Module Plus. I've looked into the ETH/DMZ setting on the broadband module however no matter what settings I change it does not seem to get an internet connection. Your thoughts/ideas would be most appreciated.

Current set up is as follows:

Hi

In regards to the previous posts, it is possible. You would need to connect an Ethernet cable between a LAN port on the BT 2700HGV Router and the ETH/DMZ port on the BT Versatility (BTV) Broadband Module + (BBM+). You would then need to configure the ETH / DMZ port on the BTV BBM+ to be an IP Gateway and select the required network settings appropriate to your network. Once this is done there should be internet access on the LAN of the BBM + and the VoIP can be programmed up as usual. It should be noted that if there any firewalls on your network they would usually need to be configured to forward the VoIP traffic to the BBM+.

In regards to your question Ihesketh, the set up of this would depend on whether you have a single public static IP address or multiple public static IP addresses. In both cases you would need to go into the BBM+ VoIP settings and enable an endpoint for ITP Extension for each V-IP phone you have. You would then need to input the MAC address of each phone against one of these end points. If you have a single IP address you will then need to program this IP address into the V-IP phone under the Remote System setting. For multiple IP addresses you will need to go into the ETH/DMZ settings on the BBM+ and change the DMZ IP address to match the specified router or default gateway IP address from the multiple static IP addresses provided. You will also need to change the DMZ subnet mask to that specified in the details of the multiple static IP addresses you would then need to go into the VoIP settings and under Advanced VoIP settings change the VoIP interface to ipdmz. Finally you would need to go into the firewall & security settings under advanced configuration and disable nat to dmz interfaces. After this you would then need to programme the DMZ IP address that was entered earlier into the V-IP phone under the Remote System setting.
With regards to guides for this, they are available to customers that have a BT maintenance contract via the product support website. BT maintained customers should register on www.productsupport.bt.com to access these. Customers without a BT maintenance contract would need to contact their system maintainer.

Kind Regards
Fiona
BT Business Forum Moderator

Message Edited by Fiona on 23-07-2009 11:48 AM

I've been trying to set up our BBM+ via a cable modem aswell, but alas without success.

Have set up VOIP Featurephones connected to the BBM+ LAN and on that LAN they work fine, but the problem is trying to get them connected from outside via the WAN.

We have a cable modem with an IP address of (example) 60.30.401.501

This modem is then connected to a D-Link router with a gateway address of (actual) 192.168.0.1, which then connects to the whole of our internal LAN.

On the BBM+ module, have set it up as a LAN gateway using the address 192.168.0.50 to fit in with the IP range of our internal LAN and the D-Link Router.

Have set up the ETH/DMZ port with the cable modem IP address 60.30.401.501

On the D-Link Router have opened up UDP ports 5060-6000, and TCP port 5566.

Like I said, if I setup the VOIP featurephones with a remote setting of 192.168.0.50 (the BBM+ address) and connect them to the BBM+ LAN they work fine.

However, if I set them with a remote setting of the cable modem - 60.30.401.501 they can't find the appropriate destination and won't connect.

Can someone help please?! Have I put the correct modem settings in for the ETH/DMZ port? Am I using the correct remote setting on the VOIP phones by using the cable modem address of 60.30.401.501? Have I set the LAN gateway of the BBM+ properly by using a LAN address within our D-Link Router IP Range?

Have worked in IT for over 20 years, but this is REALLY doing my nut in!!!!!

Can anyone help please? I'll be EXTREMELY grateful!!! 🙂

Cheers

Dave, You mentioned that you have managed to set-up non-BT IP trunks on your BB module. I am trying to do the same, but cant manage to get it to connect. Any help would be very much appreciated. I am actually trying to add a couple of extension lines from an Asterisk to appear on the BTV as SIP Trunks.

Thanks,

Gary

It seems to be impossible or I maybe just doing it differently. I have tried it a couple of times, but to no avail. I hope anyone could help us on this problem and be able to share it here.
