Hi SM

There is no way for one phone to ring if configured with the same line, as stated when a call comes in or is being transferred then both with ring, the only way around this would be single lines for each person.

Sorry

If you would like to discuss this on the phone the helpdesk number is 0800 169 1146 and when asked where to go please say voip or broadband voice

Regards

Sean

6 handsets, 3 voip lines, how transfer to a specific handset?

I was told we could have 2-3 lines at £5/mth but 6 handsets on these, and be able to transfer a call to anyone as required. The handsets have come in with 2 programmed to each of the three 0560 voip numbers. So there does not seem to be a way to transfer a call to a specific extension.

We are seldom on the phone so will never need to use more than 2-3 lines at the same time. We have a standard small office set up with 6 Falcon handsets.

If this was an analogue exchange, we would pay for 2-3 physical lines in and the exchange would do the transferring. Do I need to pay for 6 lines to achieve this? If so this is a major cost disadvantage of VOIP. Also new lines online appear to be priced at £7.50/month, not £5/mth. Aug 2012

Hi SM

Do you have hosted voip or standard voip?

On standard voip call transfer is not supported.

On hosted voip the service supports:

Call Transfer

Call Transfer allows the user of a line to transfer

the other person in a call to another number. For

example, if someone calls to find out a customer’s

number, the user can transfer the call straight to

the customer so that the caller does not have to

hang up and dial the new number.

Note, this only works for users of IP telephones.

There is a choice of performing a 'blind transfer' or

a transfer with 'consultation hold' (depending on

the IP device, some support one or both options).

To transfer a call from your BT Falcon IP telephone:

1. Press the option key to transfer the call (either

blind or with consulation).

2. Dial the telephone number for the person you

want to transfer the call to. If this is a blind

transfer you will then be placed on hold and

should hang up.

3. If this is a consultation hold, wait until the call

is answered.

4. After the new person has agreed to accept

the call, press the option key to complete the

transfer. (If the new person does not answer,

or does not want to accept the call, press the

option key to return to the original caller).

5. You will then be placed on hold and should

hang up.

Looking at your post you advise you have 3 lines with 2 phones configured to each number, as long as you are using hosted voip you can transfer the calls the only issue is for example if you are transfer to a phone and want to transfer back to the same number you would need to use the short code instead of the full number.

Hope this helps

regards

Sean

Hi Sean, thanks for reply but I'm not sure you've really got the issue here.

We have hosted voip and can transfer calls, but at present 2 phones each have come with the same number, 6 phones, 3 numbers, so at each call, including when we transfer a call internally, 2 handsets ring, and we do not seem able to transfer to one single person. Can we transfer to a specific single extension without buying 3 more lines?

Thank you for the reply which answers my question.

This is a major cost disadvantage with Voip. At my last work, we had 4 incoming lines and 15 extensions. With a traditional exchange we paid for 4 lines. With voip, we would pay monthly charges for 15 lines. It is important for people to understand this when considering a switch to voip.
