Hi there,

just to clairify, I take it from your post that you have a fax line and a line for incoming/outgoing calls? Is the telephone number the same for both lines?

Also, if you are getting unsolicited nuisance faxes from businesses (which you do not want), there is a scheme you can sign up to called the Facsimile Preference Scheme and you can sign up it by registering online at:

http://www.fpsonline.org.uk/fps/

Regards,

Stephanie

I've suffered from this myself, it turned out that it was one person repeatedly sending faxes wrongly to my telephone number. I'm able to transfer calls from my phone, so I transferred it to our fax machine, which stopped the repeat calls temporarily. I then dialled 1471, got the fax machine number that was dialling my phone and sent a fax back with our correct fax number. It won't always work, but in my case it did.

I think your machine needs to be fixed. There might be loose parts causing such noise. I suggest you shift to online faxing this is the trend today. This is a very cost effective technique. Using your online account you can send and recive faxes.

BT PC Fax is the way to go. No need for a 2nd fax line and you can cut down the cost of toner and paper as everything is delivered in electronic form (if you need a paper copy, you only need to print out the pages you need). It's much easier to store and archive electronic documents than paper. It is also possible (in most circumstances) to migrate your fax number to BT PC Fax.

The only (minor) drawback is that you would need to scan any documents to your PC to send them....but this is only a minor change to your normal practice.
