Vista bug message "The file or folder does not exist" can't rename or move folders!

Hi all let me know if anyone can help with this one...

I can't rename folders in Vista and I can't move them from the desktop either.

Thankfully I can copy and I can rename files fine.

If I create a new folder in Vista it just creates a "New folder" name and I can't change it, I just get "folder does not exist" error message.

Interestingly the properties are all set to "read only" and I can't change them to normal either!

Anyway, I followed the instructions on the Microsoft Vista Support website fix here but of course it's never that simple.

MS said create the Key if it isn'e there. OK fine did that but, not only was the "Csc" key missing, but the "Parameter" one was missing too. So I went ahead and created a new Csc and Parameter set value to 1 and restarted but the problem remains...

Anyone had similar issues or a fix? It may have something to do with the fact that I don't know the rest of the settings in the "Parameters" or "Csc" Registry Entriies cos I just created them, but I'm no registry mechanic.

This is probably one of the most irritating problems with Windows Vista I have ever encountered. I can live with the backwards compatibility issues, and so-on but this is a real bummer - only thing to do is go out and buy another copy as far as I can see, or take it up with MS Support who are impossible to get hold of.

There is a claimed fix for it here and others have reported it worked for them...

However as it involves editing the registry and importing registry keys I would suggest you give it a miss and contact Microsoft if you are unsure in anyway.

Thanks so much Chris, this worked perfectly for me, I just extracted the zip and double clicked the file, restarted my computer and the folder and files seem to be working fine. That saved my having to rebuild my OS and reinstall everything.

I'm surprised that Microsoft didn't supply a patch themselves as their instructions didn't work.
