The virus is a "HTTP Malicious Toolkit IFrame Injection" (whatever that means!), the location URL is home.btconnect.com/spaldingbrown. I have spoken to a few departments at BT regarding it, but no-one really wants to accept responsibility for virus security on the server. However, I have put a couple of posts on these forums that have attracted the attention of BT and they have said "We are aware of this situation and have disabled the identified account and are attempting to work with Norton to remove the warning, please disregard this warning and be assured that your domains are on a safe and secure platform".

I appreciate that they can't police everything on the net and that virus's can be passed about quite easily. I would expect that they would have some form of virus protection on the server that would have picked it up. After all one of their main selling points is their security system that is included with their broadband. Norton have obviously found something and are warning uses about it. It is unfortunate that this lumps everyone with a site on btconnect.com in the same boat. Much as I sound like a broken record, it must be having an effect on visitors confidence to follow the link to a btconnect website.

One gentleman replied to say the Norton and McAfee were both useless and that the problem was with them. A point that I don't really share, they would appear to have a significant proportion of the internet security market and should not be simply dismissed. A good number of internet users obviously rely on them to keep their PC safe and virus free. I would imagine that a lot of business's are losing out on potential customers, which is not good!

The ball is in BT's court now and I hope that they manage to resolve the situation shortly.

Dear All,

There is a virus on the home.btconnect.com server which Norton has picked up on and warns against whenever a btconnect hosted website is searched or visited. As we have such a site we are concerned that potential customers will not visit as they are warned that it is unsafe (even though our site does not have a problem). The big red cross that comes up next to the address on google is particularly off putting!

We have contacted BT and been passed from department to department, but to no avail. Who is responsible for the BTConnect server? The address that Norton warns about being "home.btconnect.com (209.235.144.28, 80).

Can BTConnect not investigate this problem? Remove or suspend the infected files? From what we have been told, it would appear, that they can only deal with virus's in emails??? Come on BT it is your server, thus it is down to you to sort it out!!!

I certainly would not want to be selling consumer items over the BTConnect system, as I would imagine that customers would think twice before clicking on a link that is listed as unsafe!

Any comments would be welcome, particularly from BT.

Hi there,

Can't say I've heard of this but it's probably norton being over paranoid, my virus checker doesn;t have this issue.

It may be a component on your page that norton thinks is unsafe.

What virus does norton say is being found? it should give a name.

Thanks

Hello All,

I would like to apologise for us not replying to the issue which is mentioned, this is a know issue which surfaced a while ago, we have just realised we didn't post anything in regards to this which I sincerely apologise for.

However it was determined in late January 2010, that a BT ISP user had their account compromised and the BT Abuse team was alerted. This was resolved in the days following so users should no longer see this security warning from Norton, however if you are please re-post so we can look into further.

Hope this is of help

Kind regards

Tracey
