eShop customers with a non-BT hosted domain: please read this post

As a result of BT eShop moving its servers to a new data centre, if you are an eShop customer with a non-BT hosted domain you need to carry out two tasks to ensure that your website remains unaffected. For instructions on what to do, please see the Help & support FAQ eShop Upgrade.

Please could someone help with this?

I have changed our CNAME to the one specified in the post above but it has still not fixed this problem.

The site has been down for a minimum of two days now and I am very eager to fix it. I am very surprised we were not notified that this change was going to happen.

Please ask your providers to change their dns settings to the following:

Record       Type       Entry

WWW       CNAME       bt.epages.com
@none       CNAME       bt.epages.com

The settings depend on how the shop has been configured.

For most customers their shop will be on: www.youreshop.com.

Some customers will point their shop to a different subdomain such as eshop.youreshop.com or shop.youreshop.com etc usually when they have a custom homepage which contains a link to the shop..

In order for the shop to work correctly the settings need to be changed to the following if your eshop is located at www.yourdomain.com

Record Type Entry

www CNAME bt.epages.com

@none URL Forward http://www.youreshop.com

This allows the request for the www to point to the relevant entry of: bt.epages.com

If your shop sits on a different subdomain such as eshop.yourdomain.com the following entry needs to be changed to:

Record Type Entry

eshop CNAME bt.epages.com

The www and @none records will stay as they are.

The measure has been taken to allow us to use a range of IP addresses in the future which are linked the CNAME of bt.epages.com and will avoid any potential downtime therevby improving the service.

Hi,

Please advise how to configure this on 1and1 hosting as this does not seem possible. Once the CNAME has been set to bt.epages.com you have to accept a condition (I am aware and accept that all current DNS settings, e-mail addresses, and forwards will be disabled) which overides 1and1 DNS settings that prevents inbound email fom working.

If you leave DNS as 1and1 default then you can access email and not the website.

If you set the CNAME as advised then the website is accessible and not email.

This is causing major problems and needs to be rectified immediately.

Please advise on a solution to resolve this as this is seriously impacting our business.

Hi,

Unfortunately this sounds like a limitation in the control panel for editing the 1and1 hosted domain.

All hosts should give the ability to edit individual DNS records without impacting others.

It may be that you need to access the advanced section of the control panel, but as I am not familiar with 1and1's setup I cannot confirm this.

You should be able to change the records individually without seeing impact to others.

If you are unable to do this via the online system, 1and1 should be able to do this for you by request.
