This was not the case exactly while I was downloading the app, I was trying to download the app from and via the same router but different model and resetting somehow managed to solve my issue and now am successfully using the app.

I've just bought a Netgear Nighthawk X6S (R8000P) router and I'm trying to set it up.
It not a modem, so needs to connect to an external one.

My internet is FTTC.

I've got a BT Business Hub 5 which has a bridging mode, but no matter what I do I can't get the Nighthawk to connect to the internet through it.

Is it something I'm doing wrong? Or can this Hub not be used as a modem?

I've read about OpenReach modems being recommended, and I've seen one on Amazon I might order:
NGA ECI-CPE-Modems Type 1B, B-Focus V-2Fub/r Rev B
or
Huawei Echolife HG612 Model 3B

Can anyone confirm my thinking? Or recommend a modem that's not too expensive?

Thanks

Well I answered my own question, so if anyone else has the same one...

I bought the OpenReach B-FOCuS V-2Fub/r Rev B modem (£17.99 from Amazon) and it worked instantly.

Plugged in the DSL cable, and ethernet from modem to Nighthawk and it connected straight away.
Used the Nighthawk app to set up the router and it's online.
