The genral point of this post is to let you guy's know the general settings we use for Office 365 such as servers, port numbers and security settings. In addition to that, I will be placing links to BT Help and Support Articles on how to modify or setup your mail cleints for this service.

General Settings:

---------------------

POP3 settings:-

Server name: pop.outlook.com
Port: 995
Encryption method: SSL

SMTP settings:-

Server name: smtp.outlook.com
Port: 587
Encryption method: TLS (or SSL if client does not give option for TLS)

Additional Info:-
------------------------

Although not listed in set up the mail only appears to work correctly if you enable SMTP authentication and tell it to log on using same settings as incoming server

POP = Incoming
SMTP = Outgoing

Mail Client Guides:

----------------------

Update - Thunderbird may have an issue where even though port 587 shows as default there may be cases where it actually tries to connect to port 465.

To resolve this go into Preferences>Account Settings> "Outgoing Server (SMTP)".

If you see 2 entries please remove the entry for port 465.
