Hi,

Can anyone please help me with the correct configuration of two Netgear Rangemax WPN802v2s.

I am helping setup a charity's wireless network. The BT Business hub is up and running, but i am having great difficulty getting the two wpns to work.

I want this to be an open network (for staff & visitors) with the two wpns picking up the wireless signal from the hub & boosting the wirless signal to areas out of range of the hub.

There is no servers onsite; just a few staff needing internet access, and wifi for visitors.

I've followed several guides on the web, and after several frustrating hours I still can't get them to work properly. The best I've managed is one of the wpns broadcasting a signal, but with an exclamation mark (on the signal strength icon on windows 7).

I'm quite new to setting up wireless networks, especially using boosters, so can anyone provide some simple instructions please? I'd be very grateful.

I'd like to know what settings (if any) need to be made to the business hub, then the same for the 2 wpns.

I hope someone can help.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi,

After checking further into the Netgear WPN803V2 wireless hub i believe that your netgear will only be able to function using CAT5 cables to the BT hub. Also, all 3 devices will need to have the same network name (SSID) and also the same wireless encryption key.

Obviously having cables going from your router to your Netgears is untidy, it will be a good idea to get a powerline network adapter kit which when plugged in enables you to utilise your existing 240v internal wiring loom. These can be bought from http://www.shop.bt.com/products/netgear-85-mbps-powerline-network-adapter-kit--twin-pack--54V7.html#description

Also here is the documentation i was reading through online

http://kbserver.netgear.com/datasheets/WPN802_ds_1June05.pdf

Hi thebigman,

Thanks for this. I wish I'd asked for help last week!

I think I understand how these work, but please confirm....

BT Business Hub up & running and connected to one powerline adapter with an ethernet cable.

Second powerline adapter in other area of building, plugged into wall socket and to one of the WPNs with an ethernet cable. Thus the WPN broadcasts a wireless signal in that area of the building.

Is it as simple as this?

Thanks again mate for your help.

Hi Kashm1r,

Its exactly as you summarised. Also, make sure that the SSID's and the Encryption Keys on each device are exactly the same and job done.

Let me know how you get on

thebigman
