I have access to quite a few 2700s including V4, V5 and V6 with the latest firmware and have never had one that looses it's configuration.

I accept it does happen and rather than a firmware issue it could be a hardware issue.

Go through te diagnostics with BT again and then request a NEW unit.

And a final comment - and you will probably respond with "Do you think I am stupid?", but do you <SAVE> the configuration after each step during the set up? and then do it a second time just in case?

Hi,

Over the past month my bt hgv 2700 loses it configuration details. My setup is as follows

internet----> bt hgv 2700, ip 172.16.0.1 (on the lan port pushes out dhcp addresses to 172.16.0.1 subnet) ---> sonicwall tz 200 (wan port is statically configured to 172.16.0.34)---> cisco switch to LAN

Currently this works fine ( adsl modem to sonicwall, sonicwall to Cisco to LAN).

However every so often after a power off or some other event the bt hgv 2700 loses it's LAN configuration for private network (and I've noticed the set password defaults to factory default). This may be happening with the sonicwall, but I suspect the main cause is that the bt hgv 2700 failing.

Has anyone came across the hgv 2700 losing its network settings? We have very specific addresses, with a lan in New York and London connected via vpn, so as soon as the hgv 2700 defaults IP the links are lost.

Is the hgv 2700 an industrial strength business grade product and if not, can anyone recommend an adsl modem alternative?

thx

Dan

ps - whilst I'm at it, I'm thinking of doing away with the vpn link and using a 3rd party service to share the data, something like drop box. Any recommendations would be appreciated....

aetius, I'd recommend contacting the helpdesk about this. Contact Us

It may be several things, either the configuration or possibly a faulty router, in which case we can arrange a replacement quickly.

Hi Aetius

We have a similar problem , any time the router is powered off all of our custom settings including the wireless network ssid etc are reset to the default.

We have various port forwarding for VPN and VNC and have to re-enter them manually every time.

I have called BT before about this and was told that there was nothing wrong with the router and as we could get connected there was nothing they could do.

Most decent routers at least have the faciility to save your settings to a file and retrieve them later but not on the 2700.

I read somewhere that the new BT Buisness router has the ability to backup settings , can anyone confirm this?

As for Dropbox we use the free service they provide and it is excellent, the android app is great.

Paul

Hi fifex,

Yup, that was my suspicion, BT said its more than likely some equipment on my side, possibly the router and firmware version. I'm reluctant to call bt again as I'd go through diagnostic tests and probably wont get very far.

Can you recommend a decent adsl 2+ modem that would do the job?

thx

Dan

Hi Dan

It kinda depends what other BT services you have.

We have BT hosted VOIP which I believe has to go through their router or I would replace it with something else.

I personally like the linksys range (WRT54G) but I have also found the netgear routers (DG834G) to be very easy to set-up and they are very stable.

The MOST important feature has to be the ability to back up your specific configuration I can't believe BT supply a router for business use that doesn't have this feature. Also I might be wrong but I'm sure I read somewhere that the 2wire (the actual manufacturer) router firmware does support backing up and BT removed it when they created their own firmware.

Hope this helps and maybe we will even get a reply from BT?????

Paul

Hi JohnE

There seems to be alot of customers reporting the problem with the 2700 losing its configuration on the forum it looks like there is a real problem with the 2700 router.

Is anyone at BT actually looking into the problem with the router or are you just sending new ones each time.

Is it a particular firmware that has the problem?

regards

brian
