Help Setting Up Connection on Netgear DG834G (5 Static IPs)

Hi,

My BT router has just broken, so I'm trying to use a Netgear DG834g temporarily until I receive a new one. I have 5 static IPs, but I'm struggling to get any internet connection when I try to enter the static IP address manually. If I allow the router to dynamically get the IP, I connect but my IP address is not in my static range. Any suggestions?

Thanks Rich. Do you know which setting the Multiplexing Method should be set to as it still doesn't work?

for bt it should be vc-mux

vpi should be 0 and vci should be 38

I still get disconnected everytime I try to set it to a fixed IP....

just do what it says in the guide, don't try and set the router to a static ip address

bt use peered static ip addresses, so they are routed to the dhcp assigned ip address thats linked with your login details

you need to make sure you are using the proper login details, username@hg****** blah blah

When I follow those instructions, my router does not have a static IP address - it changes each time I reboot it, meaning my VPN loses connection.

do you need 5 static ip addresses? if not, ask bt to change to a single, then you will get a static ip address for the router.

as another step, you could setup dyndns for the router, then connect vpn to dyndns address.

It's not really possible to set up a VPN to the router itself, with multiple static IPs. In which case, you should set up the VPN to the specific devices which have static IP addresses assigned to them. Alternatively, the Single static IP "fix" is going to be necessary.

yeah, my vpn is handled by my sbs2011 server

if you setup dyndns on the router you can vpn to the router
