Hi,

I am new to the forum so not aware if answers already exist. My hub is set with an output power of 3. This gives significantly less coverage than my old netgear dg834g. Does anyone know if it is possible to increase the wifi output power and how?

Many thanks.

Hi Andy,

You can't change the power on 2-wire routers supplied by BT without hacking the firmware, which is entirely your choice.

I don't think the Tech Helpdesk would help you with though, just so you know.

😉

Dave A

Having seen power measurments taken on 2wire2700 family devices at various power settings. Power level 3 corresponds to approximmately 65-70mW. The maximum legal power is 100wW - and as such the design of any unit will probably be slightly below that probably around 95mW. The difference being about 1dB.

So, provided your Netgear was legal then a 1dB difference will make only a marginal difference to the coverage.

If extra coverage is important, and it should be possible, use teh Netgear an an additional WAP alongside teh 2wire but located elsewhere in the building and increase coverage even more.

Thanks for the info. The netgear is legal but from invesatigation it doesn't seem that it will serve as an extender as it is too old. I have an old 2700hgv v2 and have checked that it can only act as an extender if wired. I need to find out if I can get anything that will work on wireless. Any clues??

Cheers

Andy

Any APs will do actually. They all have "bridge mode" capabilites. But it's better to purchase an extender since it costs less.
