Hi.

I have started to implement content screening, but it appears to be a blanket allow / block. However in the content screening menu I can see various devices attached under the computer heading.

I would like to add another device for a user who requires access to some of the sites I have blocked, but can see no way to add a device.

How does the router determine these devices, and is there a way to add a device?

A couple of the devices are PC's that are attached to our network.

The BT Router connects to our CISCO Firewall and so all network devices need to pass through this protection before going out through the BT Router.

Any clues please?

Thanks,

How many gateways do you have in your network? You can probably route a specific source IP to a gateway with no restrictions.

This means you need to assign static IPs on all PCs on your network.

On occasion I've found that if you're applying access control rules but they're not being adhered to, then best thing to do is clear the device list and re-set them up again. Not exactly a quick-fix but seems to be the most effective. Go to Settings> Diagnostics> Resets and clear the device list, once the devices are rediscovered add them to the appropriate group again. The other knock-on affect of this is any port rules currently in place will need to be re-added again.

If it's rebooting intemittently, there must be an issue. Have you treried checking the error logs? Could be possible that it is running out on memory because of huge entries of input.

spoke with BT yesterday... they called me. woohey!

anyway the guy I spoke to Steve was very knowledgeable and said that it sounded like a power issue, so he is sending out a new router and power supply. The new router still does not have the ability to save the config, however he did also say that there was a brand new router that it is trial status at the moment that does have the ability (about time too).

Will need to configure the new router with the existing settings (manually), so have to make good screengrabs of the relevant pages, wish me luck. lol.

Thanks again for all your help.

The 2700/01 does have te ability to save te config - how else does it come back in the same state after a power cycle? It does not have the ability to take a copy of the config file and dloiad that elsewhere but that is not a major issue.

Have received and installed a replacement BT Router. All was ok for one day and then today we have had one outage, though whilst BT were doing their tests and checks the line was going up and down worse than anything.

Have arranged for a BT Broadband Boost Engineer (very grandiose) to visit next week.

i have a suspicion that our issues lie with the implementation of content screening and the higher than average load that this places on the 2701 router.
