I have Infinity and with a cabled connection to the hub a speed test shows 35mbps.

However, wifi speeds are much slower.

The fastest speed I have seen is approx 20mbps on an iPhone but the average is more like 12mbps even on a laptop.

I tried prompting the hub to change channel but this made no difference.

The hub showed it was operating at 130mbps so that's a big difference and I do not understand why.

All my devices are 802.11n so I changed the hub from the default (b/g/n) and repeated the tests. The speed was the same but the hub now shows it is operating at 300mbps.

I never thought I would be in the situation where the wifi was going to be the bottleneck.

Any suggestions?

Could there be a firmware upgrade to address wifi performance?

Try resetting your modem and router and then reconnect it to your computer. Then see if there will be any difference.

i know the modem is ok as I am getting expected speeds when connecting to the hub with an ethernet cable.

I found that going to speedtest.net it was showing 35mbps whilst using the speed tester at thinkbroadband.com would always show much lower but similar to the speedtest.net app on iPhone.

I found that using the speedtest.net iPhone app I got better speeds reported when I selected a server in Manchester rather than a local one (I am just outside Birmingham).

So it looks like not all speed testers are created equal, or even different versions of the same app (sepeedtest.net website vs iPhone app).

Still don't know why the hub is showing 300mbps or why this increased from 130mbps when b/g was disabled.
