One of the computers on the network had been assigned a IP by the DHCP server from the pool of address, and can ve seen in the DNS resolution table with that IP address.

However the same name has also been assigned to the loop back address 127.0.0.1 in the same table.

There seems to be a way to add to the table but not delete from it ?

having to use the IP address rather than the name is a pain as the computer is hosting a local wiki.

Any clue as to why the entry for the loop back address was made, it was working ok for a number of weeks before the name resolution failed.

Dave

The "official" solution would be to clear *all* registered devices via the "Clear Device List" of Settings>Diagnostics>Resets.

Devices will then be rediscovered as they are reconnected so you should be able to ensure correct details. Depending upon the number of clients you support the pain of this will vary.

Unofficially there is a "hack" mechanism I discovered which can be used to remove individual entries. This carries a degree of risk and is definitely in the "at your own risk" category so I am not prepared to post it on a public forum, but I have used it and it can certainly work. If you contact me directly by private message I am happy to share the details but it is a "trick" procedure that I must explain rather than a precise solution.

Tim

The other day I was trying to do the same

(remove bogus entries from the DNS Resolution Panel)

Even the Clear all button will not get rid of the system entrys.

I have a lot of kit passing thru here and

some machines may end up with two or three entry's

depending on NIC count and connections used.

That, as it happens, will confuse the 2700HGV unit and

make name resolution on a local network either take ages or just fail.

So I needed to remove all the DNS entry's without needing to do a complete reset on the unit.

I am assuming that you are reading this because you also

need to remove a System entered entry with no remove button.?

This is fairly easy.

I shall explain the process for IE but other browsers should have the same tricks.

Step one,

Login and navigate to the DNS Resolution page.

Normally http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=C_1_5

If you do not have any user Entry's then make one, anything will do.

This will give you a pointer to the ID numbers.

And a Required REMOVE button.

Made one ? cool.

Now in IE you can press F12 and it brings up the debug tool.

No doubt most other browsers will have similar functions.

Put the window in a place that still allows you view of the Hub DNS page.

Click on the white Arrow to select an object,

click back on any REMOVE button ,

this will highlight the properties in the other window.

In the property window, on the Line above the highlighted one, is the NAMEID field you need to change.

Use that number (in the VALUE section) as a starting point and

using your preferred method count to the Actual system DNS entry

you wish to remove either above it or below it. Personally I would say,

Always delete the highest entry you want first and work downwards.

They should normally run in ascending order with no gaps. UNTIL YOU DELETE ONE.

Once you have the number then click on the Value field for

NAMEID in the debug window and change the number to the one you want to remove.

Then go back to the DNS window and click on the REMOVE button that you have edited.

Easy as that for a single offending entry.

If you want to remove a few then remember:

The NAMEID number is not changed when one below it is deleted so

you must remember to include the deleted ones in the count (or start from the Highest entry first)

Like if you have 1,2,3 and delete 2 then 1 and 3 now exist and not 1 and 2 as some may have thought.

If you want to do another then just press white arrow again,

select a REMOVE button, do the counting and editing again.

To be honest it is best to remove ALL the entry's and then just

add back in the Manual entry's you may have.

The automatic entry's from the DHCP server will drop back in themselves.

No doubt there is a much simpler method around,

but incase you do not find it, this one at least works.

Hope that helps you too.

Hv.
