New ADSL connection. 8128 sync 2000 ip profile

Hi,

BT business broadband was setup on Friday and I have been connected at 8128kbps over the weekend but my IP Profile is still showing 2000kbps. I understand that it can take a while to change but previously all IP Profile changes have happened within 2 days. I hear that it is more common to have a stuck profile at 2000kbps on a line that has never had broadband before, which mine hasn't. I am hestitant to contact BT because they will just say it's still within the 10 day training period and refuse to do anything. My online order tracking page still says "In Progress" due for Monday the 21st...

Any advice?

Hi. They'll probably gonna change but since it's weekend, they don't have work. You're getting an actual speed of ~~8Mbps which is a good thing. 🙂

Don't you get fed up with making pointless posts which do not even make sense and are often totally WRONG. There are several here who are getting fed up with you.

To the OP. Do not keep turning the modem/hub on and off, occasional is OK but frequent can make it worse.

Power teh hub off completely and leave it off for 30 minutes. Then restart everything. Run a full BT speedtest and post the report and also a copy of your router stats would be useful.

I'm a bit worried to do this because it might seem like an unstable line and reset the tiime it takes for the profile to increase. Should I just go ahead and do it anyway?

Turning it off ONCE and leaving it for 30 minutes will not affect it. But ten times in an hour might cause the DLM to lower the sync speed because of perceived instability. It is also worth disconnecting the connection to the phone socket too. Then when you reboot, power up, leave 2 minutes to stabilise and then connect back to teh phone socket.

Have a look at: http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/IPprofile.htm and scroll down to teh table which show teh approximate times for an increase in Profile to occur. 2000 to just about 7600 is 380% so it could happen in a matter of hours.

So, after rebooting, leave it on for 5 hours then off for 30 minutes again and see if there is a change. And repeat tomorrow morning.

Okay just turned it back on after 30 minutes and it's resynced at 8128 still. IP Profile is still set to 2000. Will see how it goes, thanks

Open Windows task manager (or whatever it is called in your version of windows) and select the Networking tab.

Run a speedtest, or try downloading a large file.

Take a screenshot of task manager, save it to your desktop and then attach teh image to a post here along with speedtest results. That will show what ACTUAL throughput you are getting.

If it does not shift from 2000 by mid-day tomorrow, you could have a stuck profile and it will need resttting but you may not get any joy until the 10 training period is over.

Almost certainly a stuck profile ... As it is "flatlining" at the same level, just below 2Mbps it suggest that it has not been updated since your move/upgrade.

Call support and talk them through what you have seen, what you have done and that ebven after several days there has been no change. If you get teh right support agent they will understand and get teh profile reset.

I agree. This issue needs troubleshooting over the phone since they need to ask you some questions depending on thte error that you are getting. I believe they are open 24/7.

So I chatted with 'Kirsten' online and after a bit of convincing she has told me she has requested an engineer to reprofile my liine over the next 72 hours. She said they'll call on Thursday with information.

I guess we'll wait and see, thanks for your help 🙂

So it's Wednesday and the profile is still set to 2000 and no word from BT. Guess I'll wait till tomorrow for a call then contact them again..
