Hi, so today my ADSL2 was activated on my line, it was a fairly decent ADSL MAX up to 8mb, which I would get 7mb down on before the regrade.

This morning when I first checked the speed, I was getting about 17.5/0.9, but since lunchtime only this painfully slow 287kbps down and 440kbps up

Now I know it's only the first day, but since this lunchtime the connection has stayed at 287Kbps Down and 440 up. Is this normal, will the connection improve on it's own, or should I be talking to somebody about it?

Here is the line stats, I reset the router to see If that would help, hence the low connection time.

Line state:

Connectedppp0_0

Connection time:

0 days, 00:27:58

Downstream:

287.1 Kbps

Upstream:

440 Kbps

ADSL Settings

VPI/VCI:

0/38

Type:

PPPoA

Modulation:

G.992.5 Annex A

Latency type:

Interleaved

Noise margin (Down/Up):

30.1 dB / 28.1 dB

Line attenuation (Down/Up):

19.3 dB / 9.3 dB

Output power (Down/Up):

18.3 dBm / 11.6 dBm

FEC Events (Down/Up):

0 / 0

CRC Events (Down/Up):

0 / 32

Loss of Framing (Local/Remote):

0 / 0

Loss of Signal (Local/Remote):

0 / 0

Loss of Power (Local/Remote):

0 / 0

HEC Events (Down/Up):

0 / 7

Error Seconds (Local/Remote):

0 / 0

Clinton,

That looks like a fault to me. You need to calll Tech Support as your line may need a profile reset. With 30dB SNR - something is wrong and needs resetting. Do not accept that you need to wait 10 days for stabilisation as the speeds are well away from what the line should support and at 287kbps is almost unusable.

Well I'm not sure it would of removed itself after 5 days If I'd of just left it, also the fact it was such a low profile on a previously good line kind of hints at a problem.

I switched router from Business HUB3 to my old 2700, partly to rule out the new BH3 being duff, and partly because I know that the 2700 has training history, and I'm more familiar with the logs. Anyway the logs from last night show loads of errors and the router losing connection from about 02.30 to 05.00.

I have spoke to tech support once on Tuesday and then again yesterday afternoon for an update as nothing has changed, then this morning I received a text update saying that my fault raised had now changed to fault investigation.

So hopefully I will get some progress today, I really hope it is fixed by tomorrow as I have an important meeting online Friday evening.

When it is solved, keep the 2700 on the line. I feel it is a better device than the BH3 and will sync with a 3dB SNR and hold sync down to 0dB and occasionally below.

Just keep the BH3 as a back-up or use it as a second WAP.

Yea that sounds like a plan, the BH3 looks nice but the 2700 seems to have a lot more connection information available, and it's been a solid performer for the last couple of years.

Looks nice is one thing ... functionality, as you appreciate, is another!

I have the 2701 on my Infinity connection along with two 2700s as WAPs. In addition at my Scottish location I have two 2700s and several friends and colleagues have them too.

There are instructions in a pinned thread about converting a 2700 to a WAP - the method for a BH3 is similar just the page references/layout are different.

Hi,

I'd just like to clarify something in regard to profile resets.

When these first became available it was the case that further faults on the line could not be raised for the entirety of the 10 day period. That has, however, changed in the past year or so.

When a profile reset is put through the main effect should happen in the first 24 to 72 hours, and in most cases it's been done as part of the fault process anyway, so there should usually already be a case open.

Also there should be a callback booked for a few days after the reset to check if its worked or not. If you don't get this and the connection is still broken then you should call in to the Helpdesk. There may be any number of reasons why they didn't contact you, and it's better to phone in and make sure the case stays active, rather than waiting for ages and having to start the whole process again.

Dave

Thanks that's good to know

Just an update on my situation...

After a chat with support this evening; Wednesday night an engineer did a lift and shift, and also at some point the IP profile for my line has changed from 0.25Mbps to 6.11Mbps. However I'm still only getting between 0.19 - 0.24Mbps down. Router logs show that I'm getting fairly consistant FECs and some CRCs along with a few hundred Link Retrains.

This is the stat's from the 2Wire 2700.

The Noise Margin is a lot lower and the Attenuation a bit higher than what was reported on the BH3, whether that's due to the engineers work or just different methods of reporting from the routers I'm not sure.

Down Up

Modem Type:

Built in modem - ADSL

DSL Line (Wire Pair):

Line 1 (inner pair)

Current DSL Connection:

Rate:

6925 kbs

444 kbs

Max Rate:

15913 kbs

876 kbs

Noise Margin:

10.8 dB

30.1 dB

Attenuation:

22.6 dB

9.3 dB

Output Power:

10.1 dBm

12.1 dBm

Protocol:

G.DMT2+ Annex A

Channel:

Interleaved

DSLAM Vendor Information

Country: {46336} Vendor: {IFTN} Specific: {48753 }

ATM PVC:

0/38

Rate Cap:

15913 kbs

Attenuation @ 300kHz:

22.6 dB

Uncanceled Echo:

-21.4 dB

Ok

VCXO Frequency Offset:

5.8 ppm

Ok

Final Receive Gain:

14.6 dB

Ok

Excessive Impulse Noise:

0

Ok

Unfortunately I still get this,

This is what I had for a few hours on Monday,

Notice the difference in Ping also, I presume this is mainly due to Interleaving now being switched on, it's really important for me to have a low latency and when this problem is sorted I hope I will be able to have FastPath constantly enabled.

I'm nearly regretting going ahead with this regrade atm, I should have done more research into ADSL2+ and possible consequences. I would definitely sacrifice some speed for lower latency and I might have been better off staying with my stable FastPath Max connection.

This is starting to become hard work now

Engineer came round yesterday, everything was fine my end, really good line and all my equipment was fine.

He said that I was band capped up and down and that he would get both reset.

However it seems that only my download has been reset, with the noise ratio brought down from 30Db to 6Db, and my DL speed is now averaging 15Mbps.

The upload however has remained at 30Db and as expected the upload speed has stayed the same about 0.35Mbps up.

So I would say that I'm still band capped on my upload.

Speedtester Result

Now to the hard work part, I received a follow up call just now to check if everything was okay. Obviously i tried to explain that I still needed to get the upload speed fixed as it was still band capped, to which I was told that BT do not cap the upload and that the speed I was getting was acceptable, and I now need to wait for the ten day training period to complete.

Fantastic, so I expect I will need to spend another several hours going though this process again in ten days time.

Probably the most annoying thing has been that no body has really explained to me what the problem actually was.

It cost me an hour in phone calls but finally have my connection sorted.

Somebody from BT phoned yesterday and told me they have now removed the cap on my upload, and sure enough I now have a really nice connection
