It makes sense, but I cannot figure it out, I have option 1 Business Infinity with 5 statics (8 in total but some are reserved) do I have to set this up? I need a public static addresses to setup the exchange mx records. Does this mean My broadband connection does not have a static IP? This is why I went for this service!

I just need to understand how this is supposed to be setup and if I need to do this or BT? Helpdesk dont seem to know either.

I am not sure if I am missing the point here? I have recently had installed BT Infinity and choose the 5 Static addresses, on the paper work it says I have 8 but a couple are reserved for the router etc. So I was expecting the router to have the allocated IP when I tested from another source. This appears not to be the case. The Static IP starts with a 217 but it is not and currently starts with an 81? Also in the hub setup Static IP's is off?

I was under the impression this service would give me a static IP for the routing and 5 for other services I wanted to configure. Is this not the case? Feeling a bit confused must be my age 🙂 Do I set this up?

Thanks

Hi,

Multiple static IP packages work in a different way to a single static.

A single static is allocated to the connection once the correct details are entered, and there isn't any further set up.

Multiple IP packages allocate a dynamic peer IP to the connection, and then the router picks up the usable statics, which are then allocated to individual machines from the router interface.

Hopefully that makes sense.

Hi,

If you're setting up a mail server then you'd need to allocate one of your usable IP addresses to the server.

If you must have a static IP on your connection then you'd need to downgrade to a single static IP.
