The number is definitely an eleven digit number starting '066' - from the bill:

"This bill is for

Broadband and Internet

066..."

but if you dial it from a normal landline you get an invalid number response by the 3rd digit.

It looks like the VOIP option would be broadband voice, which is £5 a month (plus calls, plus VAT) by which point it is getting close to the cost of the basic landine package anyway.

At home we currently have a BT landine (with an '01908' geographical number). This account is in my partner's name, and we pay for it by Direct Debit.

We also have a BT Business FTTP connection which is in my name (was a part of the Bradwell Abbey trial, but I now pay for it online by credit card), with a different account number, and an 11 digit 'phone' number starting '066'.

We don't use the landline and would like to cancel it, but the guy we spoke to at BT about cancelling it this evening was unsure as to whether it would affect the FTTP connection so didn't want to complete the request as he couldn't get hold of anyone from 'the fibre team' to confirm the situation.

I can't see why the 2 services should be connected at all, one is through copper, the other through a glass fibre all the way to the white box on my wall, but I can't find any details in the forum or help pages.

Can anyone from BT confirm that cancelling the phone line will not affect the FTTP connection, or if not, why we need them both.

Thanks

It should not affect it at all - but call teh Fibre helpdesk to confirm.

You mention an 066 number, do you mean 056 ?

You may also want to explore porting your existing 01908 number to VOIP and overlay it on your 056 number (if you have one). The cost is minimal, if any.

Just to confirm for anyone else who comes across this and wonders - we cancelled the landline and the FTTP connection continues to operate without a problem. We're not using the BT voice VOIP service as it seemed a waste of £5 a month, which was the point of cancelling the landline in the first place.

Do please note that this is fibre to the premises (FTTP), not fibre to the cabinet (FTTC), so don't blame me when your internet connection gets cut if you cancel your landline with an FTTC connection!
