Hi,

I'm the IT elf for a friends company. He wants him and his staff to be able to access a particular PC which he uses as a server of sorts (W8.1 Pro), it's more a place where all the documents are shared from on the homegroup, as they are stored there having access to that c from a remote location would allow him and others to continue working when away from the office (RDC no good).

Anyway, I've spent 9 WEEKS to trying to get a VPN to the 'server' from my home pc (W8.1 Pro).

Facts:

He's got a BT Business Hub 3 fed by an ECI B-FOCuS V-2FUb/I Rev.1B VDSL modem, the hub has a cable going from it to a Netgear GS724T switch and cable from that to the server.

He's purchased a static IP from BT so that I didn't need to use a ddns.

I've gone into the router setup and opened 1723, and PPTP and assigned them to the server.

I've turned off the firewall on the router.

I've added 1723 to the server firewall.

I've allowed incoming connections on the server.

I've set up an incoming VPN connection on the server.

I've setup a user whose username and lgin are easy to remember.

Problem:

When I go to any port testing site, whilst I DO get a positive for 3389 (and I can use RDC, but I want the file sharing abilities of a VPN), I get a negative on 1723 - even though I have added it to port forwarding - as I said I've even completely turned off the router firewall and added 1723 as an exception on the server firewall.

Biggest problem:

I have yet to create a VPN to the server. Am I not privy to some essentiall information re the relationship between the BTBH3 and VPN?

Please see here for fuller info > Superuser post and see here for the specific type of Windows VPN I'm trying to set up > WINDOWS 8.1 VPN

PLEASE HELP!!! I'M LOSING MY MIND!!!!!
