i think BT cant say it will always work is because since its third party if their software/servers/etc go wrong its not BTs fault so you'd need to speak to the third party if it goes wrong.

BT provides the space for it to run and the services needed but thats all

This is running locally just fine, it requires ASP.NET, the ability to use 'virtual URLs' ending in .ASPX extensions and write access to the App_Data directory.

Regarding BT Professional Hosting:

Would Blogengine run?

Which version of ASP is supported?

Which version of IIS is supported?

Can IIS be configured to enable virtual URLs?

Thanks for your help!

Andy,

Thank you for the clarification.

I have set this up with other hosting companies, but I cannot find any ASP or IIS settings on the BT control panel.

Where can I select that the public fold should be run as an 'ASP Application'?

How do I allow ASPNET write permissions on the App_Data folder?

Blogenegine.net is a true ASP.NET 2.0 application and is one of the kits promoted by ASP.NET, is there a reason you cannot guarantee it will function correctly?

Thanks again Andy,

Just wanted to close out this post.

We tried for a week to get BlogEngine to run with BT Advanced hosting without success. There where major errors when accessing virtual URLs and I don't believe we where ever able to get write access on the App_data folder. This was due to the limited options in the control panel.

We spoke with the help desk many times with different answers to the same questions. What we where able to put together is the following, please post corrections if this information is incorrect.

The servers are Lynx hybrids, but 'support' ASP/IIS so you have limited/no advanced options in the control panel.
The servers are based in the East Coast of the USA.
BT cannot guarantee any application to work other than the web tools and services it provides.

This would include any ASP application – even native MS approved apps or standard open source apps.

We where very disappointed with this, as we confirmed our requirements before ordering the hosting.

We have now changed companies to a true MS/ASP.net host. When we uploaded Blogengine 'out of the box' on our new hosting company it ran and functioned perfectly first time. We then uploaded our customised version, it ran first time.

Personally, I think BT's branding of there product as 'Advanced' or 'Professional' is far fetched to say the least.
