Business Hub giving false ip address

Hi,

It's getting really irritating now. Some of us are using Mac's on wifi and wired. The problem is the hub (2701HGV-C) is giving us false IP addresses (10.100.1.105). We should be getting 192.168.1.xxx but we are getting 10.100.1.xxx. I have tried using the network assistant on the mac which will work, but after a while it would revert to 10.xxx.xxx.xxx. Any help will be much appreciated.

Hi LAB77

The Hub will give you an IP dependent on the Connection your using to it.  Wirless and Ethernet will give you the 192 range you should be getting, but if your devices are connecting (unintentionally and without your knowledge) to the BTWifi/BT Openzone, then that will certainly give you a 10.x range.

You could go round each of your Macs and raise the correct wireless network to be priority over BT Wifi, or you can turn of the BTWiFi feature on the router - which is simpler.

Make sure your connect with the 192 range IP, probably best to do this with an ethernet cable (if your Macs allow as some of the Macbooks dont have them), if possible.

then log into the router interface. and go to Services - BT Openzone.

Turn this off.  It will take 24 hours to fully disable, but you should notice an improvement immediatly.

If that is turned off, and you still see BTWifi/BTFon/BT Openzone in your list of available Wireless networks, it could be a BT customer near you who your connecting to.

If thats the case, then be best to contact BT's IT Suppport Manager desk who can help you configure your devices not to connect to the Open networks around you.  Please be aware that they are a chargeable service.

They are open 24/7 on 0800 500 247
