Multiple BT servers causing high latency.

Hi all,

Ive been monitoring out Infinity2 connection as we have been having reports from customers that are having high latency issues when connecting to our server, and it seems to be one of the BT servers on the network that are impacting our latency.

When tracing a route, it always seems to be the 8th hop in the network that seems to be impacting our latency.

Identified Addresses:

109.159.248.182 - 18ms

core1-te0-15-0-14.ealing.ukcore.bt.net [109.159.248.38] - 21ms

core1-te0-3-0-3.ealing.ukcore.bt.net [109.159.248.20] - 21ms

core1-te0-3-0-15.ilford.ukcore.bt.net [109.159.248.152] - 18ms

I know 21ms is not really a big deal of latency, but the rest of the hops onto the network exit on <10ms and this latency on these servers seem to vary depending on times of the day, ive seen it as high as 247ms as of yesterday at 6PM.

Is this common on Business connections? I know failover onto residential using the bthomehub@btbroadband.com pings are perfect and normally sit around 8ms.

Why is the business latency a lot higher than a standard residential line?

Thanks,
Jaye.
