Parental Control

MysteryMan

We have a BT Business account and use this to provide internet access at my tennis club.

Because people can access the internet through a supplied PC and personal devices (phones, tablets, laptops) coonnected over WiFi we want to control access to websites.

At the time then the only way to do this was to use a 3rd party router (Billion) and link this to OpenDNS.

Now we are being offered a new router by BT (presumably the latest Smart Hub) and have questions about how we achieve control over websites......

1) Can the BT router be used to link to OpenDNS?

2) Can the BT router be linked to use BT Parental Control functionality?

Thanks!

Hi MysteryMan

Whilst the Guest Wi-Fi does block anything illegal, it would not necessarily block what is deemed unsuitable. Unfortunately there is no way of setting it up those controls on a Business Hub. You should be able to do this with certain 3rd party routers however, but not on the Business routers. I do apologise about that. It may be worth giving our technical team a call on 0800 800 154 however to go through the Guest Wi-Fi with you, as it is a free service on the SmartHub, and may be suitable for you. It is quite a new service so chances are you will see controls brought into it in the future, as the demand is there I completely agree.

Hi MysteryMan

Welcome to the forums! Unfortunately the business routers would not have these options, only the residential routers would let you parental control the connections. Are you looking to set up Guest Wifi on the router or just have people connect to the standard connection

I am not familiar with the "Guest WiFi" option, so, do not know answer to your question, sorry!

We have a PC that is connected directly to router, via a cable

We want to allow members to access the internet, via WiFi

We want to allow users to access certain websites, such as court booking, LTA, etc.

We want to prevent users accessing unsuitable sites, such as pornography, gambling, etc.

I can't believe that we are the only business user that wants to do this and surely there has to be a solution.

How do other people achieve this? Is it not possible with the supplied router?

Thanks!

Just read up on Guest WiFi and this sounds like it will do what we want as it says it blocks anything "illegal", so, I assume that covers porn and any stuff you would rather a child didn't access - is that right?
