dramatic loss of speed, ip profile now 0.5m

We've had BT business broadband for 8 years, consistently at around 7mbps download speed.

3 days ago it jumped down to 0.5mbps

 

Have been on the phone and they state that there is nothing wrong with the line and that if an engineer comes out it's likely to cost us £250 which is a lot for us.  Not nice to be threatened after being a good customer for so long.

 

The IP profile is set to 0.5 now for some reason.  It's now plugged into the testing socket with a new filter, just one landline attached and nothing else.  The noise is 33.4dB

 

Does anyone have any suggestions how to improve it before I take the gamble?
