3rd party IMAP service via BTConnect?

Hi, apologies if this has already been asked - I've searched the forums but not found the exact issue I'm struggling with.

We need to use IMAP to synchronise emails in two part-time offices.  The new Outlook.com email service does not allow IMAP, so I have registered a new domain (not through BT) and configured an email account on my external IMAP server (which works perfectly for about 60 other clients).

We can receive emails, but cannot send them - error 553 - relay denied.

Spoke to the support team and they say there is no BT product we can upgrade to which will support the IMAP protocol, and we cannot use our own external (or even internal) mail server to get messages out because we have BTConnect broadband and it doesn't allow relaying.  End of.

But surely there's a way?  I feel I'm missing something because we can use webmail fine to send and receive using the external server, so why shouldn't we be able to use an email client?  (My client wants to stick with Outlook).

Has anybody run up against this before and solved it?

Many thanks,

Matt
