Switching from BT Business broadband to BT residential broadband

David_G

My local exchange has recently been upgraded to fibre and my (work from home) business has been closed down, so now is a good time to review my BT services.

Currently I have a BT residential phone service and BT business broadband. It seems to be sensible to move to a combined residential package for both.

I have been on both services for many years and, having read many negative comments on the internet, am dreading the possible upheaval.

We currently have several btconnect.com email addresses in active use and want to manage their transition as painlessly as possible.

Ideally I would like to keep them but cannot work out if this is possible:

and

https://community.bt.com/t5/Email/Move-e-mail-subaccount-from-a-btconnect-com-to-a-btinternet-com/td...

indicate not, but:

https://business.forums.bt.com/t5/Email/Keeping-btconnect-email-address-when-switching-to-BT-residen...

indicates I can.

If this is not possible to simply keep the btconnect addresses, is there any way I can keep them alive for a transitional period of say three to four months after the broadband has been switched to residential?

This will allow me to create some new residential email addresses and then painstakingly track down the many internet companies (e.g. online shopping) with which we have registrations that use the old business email addresses and amend them to the new residential ones. This process usually requires a confirmation to be acknowledged using the old email address!

I'm sure this is a common request but I have not been able to find a straightforward answer to it.

Many thanks for your suggestions

David

Hi David,

What you can do to keep the @btconnect.com email addresses active, is when you move the broadband is to keep a billable product on the account, something like a PC secuirty license or a web hosting pack about £5-6 a month depending on what you take.

This will keep the broadband account active the added service even though there is no broadband on the account anymore.
