Transferring Business Lite to Office 365 Business Premium

I have added 18 Business Premium accounts and then configured them as required through the Office 365 login portal using the admin@businessname.onmicrosoft.com login supplied. I now want to switch the emails over to the the new accounts. When done directly with microsoft, this involves a two-step process to add the domain name - 1, create a DNS TXT record with your hosting company to prove you own the domain, then 2, create all the MX and CNAME records to redirect emails to the Microsoft cloud server.

Is this how it's done through BT? Only, I'm going round in circles here. When I try to add the TXT record through the advanced DNS settings of the BT Domains Admin login, it just says it's been added, but it just ignores me. No TXT record is created and I can't progress beyond step 1.

Or, do BT have to make changes to the MX records themselves?

I don't need all the existing inboxes moved over - I just intend to import the existing Outlook .pst files into the new accounts at each desktop, so that the new accounts will get populated with the existing emails from my end.

I just can't for-the-life-of-me work out how I get the email flowing into the new accounts.

Please can someone give me a clue?

Just to update everyone..........

The BT Office 365 Deployment specialist team helped me out today and what I find is this:

In the BT Advanced Domain Management site, the process of adding a TXT record to verify that you own the domain DOES NOT WORK if you use Windows 10 Edge browser. You MUST use Google Chrome instead to add the record!

Or use Windows 7/8!

Good Luck!

Hi MartinConnolly,

Are the 18 licenses with BT or microsoft direct?

If there are with BT, you would need to login to manage services with your primary email address normally your main @btconnect.com address.

Once logged in your would go to add new users and create the email address in question, and assign once of the licenses to it, if the domain name does not show in the list available you would need to add the domain name to your account first for smart hosting.

This is where I'm going round in circles. If I try to add an email address, I get :

We are updating our service and you can no longer activate Office 365 licences in Manage Services.

More information on how to activate Office 365 is available here

www.bt.com/business/BBwithO365

If you are trying to activate a Business Email Lite licence, please select confirm to continue

I've phoned them up and had the account activated - that's where the admin@companyname.onmicrosoft.com login from. But now where do I go?
