Using BT connect with "legacy" email service from previous ISP

StuartAB

Hi

I'm trying to help an SME which decided to do a two stage migration to BT from their previous ISP, initially keeping the old email and web-site provision, and just using BT's fibre-optic service to speed up what was a lethargic broadband provision.

Perhaps predictably, we've hit the problem of setting up the SMTP service. Nothing works.

I've tried various options, some of them fairly old, on this forum, so not sure what the current advice is.

They're using Mail under Mac OS X.

Thanks,

Stuart

Hi Stuart,

Sorry for the delay in replying to you here.

If you haven't already managed to fix this one, could you give us a few more details of the old email service that you're trying to use - for example, the email domain name (the part of the address/es after the "@" sign), the settings you've tried so far, and the kind of bounceback/error messages that you receive?

MAC Mail can also be a bit of a problem at times as we have seen instances when it has actually changed email account settings by itself, which doesn't help matters, but we can confirm the latest recommended settings with you first of all.
