I've just been speaking to a reputable SEO company who informed me that my domain has a 302 Temporary Redirect set up. They say a 302 redirect has a detrimental effect with Google and other search engines.
I did a bit of investigation and discovered the following website:
http://www.seoconsultants.com/tools/headers.asp
I ran my domain through this tool and it returned the following results (edited for clarity):
#1 Server Response: http://www.rikkismusic.com
HTTP Status Code: HTTP/1.1 302 Found
Redirect Target: http://www.rikkismusic.com/epages/Domain.vanity
#2 Server Response: http://www.rikkismusic.com/epages/Domain.vanity
HTTP Status Code: HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently
Redirect Target: http://www.rikkismusic.com/epages/BT3146.sf
#3 Server Response: http://www.rikkismusic.com/epages/BT3146.sf
HTTP Status Code: HTTP/1.1 200 OK
So it seems the SEO company was right. BT has setup a 302 Temporary Redirect on my domain name. What's more, there seems to be an unnecessary step here. What on earth is Domain.vanity? I would expect the following redirect:
www.rikkismusic.com <--- 301 redirect ---> www.rikkismusic.com/epages/BT3146.sf
I've checked other user websites on this forum and the 302 Temporary Redirect occurs on all the ones I looked at.
Does anybody know what this is about and does it really affect the optimisation of my domain name?
I believe this has been very recently fixed, it is possible to check this again and find out if this behaviour remains?
Thanks, Orchie
Thanks Orchie
Just checked it again and although it is the same 3 steps, the 1st step is now a 301 Permanent Redirect. So it looks like the behaviour is fixed.
