External domains - confirm ownership not working

draycir

Hi

I'm trying to use an externally hosted domain with our web hosting (we're on the Advanced Web Hosting package).  Our domains are hosted with 1&1 and I've configured the DNS of draycir.eu to point to the BT IP address 209.235.144.9.  If I ping draycir.eu it returns the correct IP address but when I choose Confirm Ownership in Manage services it displays the error check failed - please update your MX record.

Checkling the FAQ I've done everything that it states.  I have not however changed the MX records as these have already been changed to go directly to our company Exchange servers and I do not want to use BT email boxes.

Can someone please tell me how to get past this error as I need to have our new website up and running asap

Thanks

Richard

Hi draycir,

Sorry to read about the problems that you are having.

What you would need to do it update your MX record with your IP address etc.

Without updating your MX record it will not allow you to continue.

Hope this helps

Tracey

Dear Richard,

Last year Steven Narey of BT's Domain Name Services sorted out something very similar for me. There are settings that Support can change but we customers can't. Splitting A records from MX records appears to be an example. I suggest getting in touch with Support and saying what you want to happen with web-forwarding and with e-mail forwarding. It worked for me.

Yours,

   Nigel.
