Adwords

If anyone uses adwords with eShop it might be worth checking your ads are actually linking to your website correctly.

I clicked one of my ads today, no reason to do so but glad I did, turns out the ads were giving website not found errors (404/403). Preview in adwords was okay but the actual live ads gave errors when clicked, still paying for clicks but prospective customers were not getting to the site.

May have been something in the upgrade, may be just a conincidence that it happened just after that was done.

Hi there, Interesting point you've made there as I am looking to set this up in the next week or so. Have you managed to resolve this or is this an still outstanding issue? Thanks

Hi,

Yes, got it sorted out.

I was originally linking the adds to the homepage of the website using http://www.watchstrapstore.co.uk which produced the error.

After a bit of digging around and trial and error I am now linking to http://www.watchstrapstore.co.uk/epages/BT4283.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/BT4283/Categories

That can be changed for whatever landing page or product category you would want but needs the full eshop address, BT4283 would be my shop number.

I think the problem only occurs when auto-tagging is turned on in Adwords which adds something like 'gclid=******' to the end of the link and is used to pass information to Google Analytics. Causes an error when added to the website URL but is okay when added to the full address.

Well, that's my theory!
