Hi everyone,
I just wondered if anyone knows where you can add an alt tag (phrase from BT despite several forum members on other forums asking members not to use the phrase "alt tag") to images in the BT Eshop. I looked through the code on my site and noticed that clearly the homepage is set up to automatically assign item titles to alt tags but there are no alt tags on images on each individual item page. I assume there must be a way to add alt tags in the html in the long description but then the images are hosted in the image section so I am not sure how you do this.
Any advice would be great, although I have had completely differing opinions on the value of alt tags, 1 says they are uber-important and another saying they are no more important than meta-tags (spent a few weeks working out the best meta-tags and then I read recently search engines are largely discounting these due to manipulation).

Hi Allstar,
I am sorry for the delay in any reply. You're right there are currently no alt or title tags for images. Normally the product's name is set for those attributes. BT plan to fix that with next patch.
Hope this helps

Hi,
Have BT fixed the problem of allowing alt tags to be added to images?

Hi Samprod
As discussed in the other E Shop posts, there are several updates for E shop which will be in place by next year.
Kind Regards

Sean2008 commented back in January 2009 that 'BT plan to fix that with next patch'.
Sorry Fiona, but your reply that 'there are several updates for E shop which will be in place by next year' does not answer the question.

Hi there,
Our support team have identified what the source the issue is and they have advised that we will be informed as soon as we have a fix on this.
Thanks for your patience.

I think i have found a way of adding or changing the standard alt tag info that appears when you hover over a pic.
Go into the Edit HTML options when you have highlighted the text area or picture area that the pic sits in. In the HTML you should see a image source command:
<img src="/WebRoot/BT/Shops/BT1234/MediaGallery/Tok_200.jpg"
right after it there appears to be a Alt Tag command:
alt="Tok_200.jpg" which is what appears when you hover over the pic in the browser.
If you change the words between the speech marks to what you want it shouls work.
So, alt="Tok_200.jpg" changed to alt="My Great Picture" after you have saved and updated cache "My Great Picture" should now appear in the browser when you hover over the pic....
It worked on my pics.....
Hope it helps...
Fiona/Andy/Sean,
We are well in to the new year now - what is the progress with this fix?
