I have recently tried setting up a DD with BT. I have been issued with a sort code which BT have been advised of does not yet recognise. My bank has advised BT of their new sort codes, but BT has not updated their system. Neither have they provided any information to BT advisers about dealing with this type of request. The result being that their call centre staff have taken the "computer says no!" approach to this issue.

 

My bank has advised all UK listed companies of this change and it would appear that BT have decided not to act on this information. All my other payees have been able to complete a manual overide to accept this new sort code.

 

It got to the point where the adviser simply put the phone down on me, rather than try to find a solution to this problem.

 

I simple can't believe that a company with 18 Mil UK customers and 2010 Net profits of £1029 Mil (ref: Wikipedia - so, pinch of salt required...) can provide such a crap level of service to their customers.

 

Rant over - simmering anger remaining...
