BT FeatureLine & Embark, BT Freelance XB2500 & poss others line wire issue?

Hi,

We have just acquired a BT Featureline & Embark phone intended for use on the BT Business phone line we have. The phone is a refurbished example and has been supplied minus a line wire. On the face of it this seemed a minor inconvenience as the female socket on the phone body appeared to be a RJ11, and male RJ11 to male 431A leads of various lengths are readily available in many outlets for not much.

Apparently the issue is somewhat more complicated though. Initially I set up the phone using a generic male RJ11 to male 431A lead, but there was no dial tone on the phone, only a low power hum. Thinking the lead may have become faulty as it hadn't been used for a time, I borrowed the male RJ11 to male 431A lead currently in use and supplied with the existing Binatone digital two piece cordless set the Featureline & Embark is intended to replace, however the results were identical, no dial tone, only a low power hum.

Next I borrowed the male RJ11 to male 431A lead from a BT Freelance XB2500 digital two piece cordless set we have for our private domestic line, and using it the Featureline & Embark had a dial tone and worked perfectly.

So, where does one go from here to obtain a line wire that is compatible with the Featureline & Embark? The Featureline & Emabark and the Freelance both appear to use line wires that connect via an RJ11, but from the above experience this would appear not to be the case, so what do they use? Is the line wire required for these actually a male RJ14 to male 431A, or a male RJ45 to male 431A lead, given that the RJ14 and RJ25 use an identical physical connector to the RJ11, but have a different wiring configuration, or is it something else?

Thanks in advance for any advice or help.

Last sentence of second to last paragraph should actually read:

"Is the line wire required for these actually a male RJ14 to male 431A, or a male RJ25 to male 431A lead, given that the RJ14 and RJ25 use an identical physical connector to the RJ11, but have a different wiring configuration, or is it something else?"

Apologies.

The pin outs on telephones are all different eg a panasonic cord will not work with a Norstar etc...best thing to do is contact a second user telephone supplier such as http://www.best4systems.co.uk

Agreed to that. Other phone lines supports limited services that is why it is always a good idea to check it first before purchasing.
